Thank u loads for being patient..

Salam...ehem..after reading what one of ur seniors commented after seeing his ongoing marks..i got a bit mad..i mean...people, no matter how low ur marks appear to be..u shouldnt be complainin abt how low u got..u should be thankful..yes, how poyo it sounds u should be..

If u think learning is all about getting good grades n those who get low grades like C or B are losers then shame on you coz u havent learnt anything at all since u first stepped into school.

Be thankful with what u've gotten k:) dont feel so down n depressed..grades ain't everything..its how u learn from them that counts n thats where u grow to become a better person. (yup, i know it sounds poyo but it's true coz i learnt from experience...i once got zero kan :)

Notes: People or Persons ? ? ?

Salam students..

I've been super busy lately. Sorry people..Next week's gonna be "Spell Master" week. So, extra work for us. :((

I've been browsing UMP n ICAM's sites recently and i'm really excited if i get to work at a different avenue.
I'm chasing experience but I ain't leaving u guys ;) we still hv facebook, twitter, YT n Blogger. What else do u need?
(^_^)

Anyway...

remember the grammar question about Person's n Persons'

Well, i remembered telling u guys that the plural of person is people. Yup, it is and is used more often. The thing is i didn't tell u guys that persons is also used as plural only differently..hmmm???

Okay so i googled and i found someone asking the same question on yahoo:
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20070518182813AAZ9xJo

In English grammar, the basic rule is one person, two people. When can "persons" be used?

I'm puzzled as to when one can say: This car sits 6 persons. I would not say, for instance: I went to a party and there were many persons, correct?

Can someone hel
p?

Someone replied and answered:

USAGE The words people and persons can both be used as the plural of person, but they are not used in exactly the same way. People is by far the more common of the two words and is used in most ordinary contexts:

: a group of people ;
| there were only about ten people ;
| several thousand people have been rehoused.

Persons, on the other hand, tends now to be restricted to official or formal contexts, as in

| this vehicle is authorized to carry twenty persons ;
| no persons admitted without a pass.

In some contexts, persons, by pointing to the individual, may sound less friendly than people:

| the number should not be disclosed to any unauthorized persons.

I hope it's clear enough for you. If u have questions, u can ask me qs at the chatbox up there, ok..

Salam cya...

First: just have a few things to say...

Okay, so in your grammar test, remember the word

"misunderstanding"?

well it's supposed to have an "s"

coz we refer to the second noun "misinterpretations"

so sorry 4 the error

I got confused myself. I thought i saw "misunderstanding" with no "s" as the answer...

which i was confused myself...
I'll explain to u in class.

super sorry for not being a genius in grammar.

I'm not perfect..i'm still learning..

Second:

insyaAllah i'll b returning your papers this Friday.

Notes: Whom and Who?

Salam

So in this post hopefully you can have a clearer idea of the difference between whom and who.
There is even a comic strip at the bottom that talks about this topic.

How do you differentiate between "Whom" and "Who"?

Yesterday, I had a talk with Nani nee-chan and she told me after she had done much research that it depends on the answer of your question.

Okay so let's say the answer is:

The pencil belongs to him.

The question for the above answer is usually:

To whom does this pencil belong to?

Whom = Him

Okay, so I got this simple explanation from a person online, specifically from this site (Wisegeek.com)

I think the easiest way to learn this rule is by thinking of how one would answer the question.

For example:

"To whom do you wish to speak?"

I wish to speak to *him*. (When you use him/her/them, then the question would have "whom," not "who.")

On the other hand,

"Who went to the party last weekend?

*He* did. (When you are able to use "he, she, they, then "who" should be used in the question, rather than "whom.")

hope this helps!

Notes: "under the sun" or "in the sun"?

Salam

So, this week I went through a portal of confusion. I never really remembered that we could use "in the sun" when we're talking about sunbathing..

for example: The girls sunbathed under the sun.

(The sentence above is correct)

However, after a student showed me the use of "in the sun" is used in the Longman Dictionary and a student even mentioned the use of "in the sun" in the popular Westlife song "Seasons in the sun", I decided to do a little research.

I googled and I called my good friend Nani nee-chan (naniscribbles.blogspot.com).

We came to a conclusion that both can be used (under the sun and in the sun) but it depends on what the speaker is referring to.

For instance: The girls are sunbathing in the sun.

(Can mean that the girls are referring to the sunlight or sun's rays.)

And when the speaker says "The girls are sunbathing under the sun"

(Can mean that the girl is referring to the sun itself..You know, the ball of flame that we see everyday)

I hope my explanation is comprehensible.

Third blog assignment: Movie Assignment

Salam...

So I believe you know the other assignments you have to do. If you need refreshing, check the links below:

FIRST BLOG ASSIGNMENT

SECOND BLOG ASSIGNMENT

Okay, even though you've done your grammar exam however I discovered that your "subject verb agreement" needs brushing up. If you have a lot of grammar mistakes in your essay, you get little marks for language.

Moving on, this post is about your 3rd assignment and hopefully will be the last one.

Your assignment is simple..

FIRST: Provide words that best describe the main characters of the movie that you watched (either Case 39 or Sherlock Holmes)

For example:

Sherlock Holmes = 1. Unhygienic

If you're wondering who the main characters of the movies are (just to refresh your memories) check the links below:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Case_39

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sherlock_Holmes_(2009_film)

Three main characters are enough.

SECOND: Are you satisfied with the ending of the movie? If you're not satisfied, why? If you're satisfied, why?

Tell me why do you like the ending or why you don't like the ending. If you wish to add your own ending that would be great.

Future Progressive tense notes (Will be and Will: what's the difference?"

Future progressive tense is used to indicate action which will be taking place at some time in the future.

For example,

I will be singing at Symphony Hall next month.

    We'll be leaving next Monday.

When you arrive, I'll be cooking dinner.

The future progressive tense is formed by adding will be to the ?ing form of the main verb.
She will be coming around the mountain in a few minutes.

She'll be riding a white horse into town.

The future progressive tense is not as common as other tenses, and it can some-times be replaced by simple future, present progressive or even simple present.
I'll be leaving in a few minutes.

I'll leave in a few minutes.

I'm going to leave in a few minutes.

I'm leaving in a few minutes.

I leave in a few minutes.

Subject verb Agreement online exercises

Salam students..

I'm very sorry for the tardiness in posting new posts here.

I haven't been feeling well lately..

So, basically your second assignment for your blogs is to:

1: Find Subject verb agreement exercises or worksheets online. Actually a one page exercise is enough but if you want to do more than that, go ahead (^_^) it can help you loads in further strengthening your basics in grammar. Frankly, I'm still doing such exercises online too. Many lecturers do so. We're not perfect and not geniuses in our work that's why we continue to learn and never stop studying. And since your lecturers are finding time to study, you should find time to do so too.

2: Answer the exercises. Make sure you find exercises that provide you the answers for the questions. This is kind of an introduction for autonomous or independent learning for you guys. I hope you can continue to be more independent in your learning than to be fully dependent on you lecturers.

- being a uitm alumni, I was always told that UiTM students are used to being spoon fed by the lecturers and are always dependent on their lecturers. I really did not support such learning style as students really need to be introduced to the real world and not all lecturers who taught me before were spoon feeding their students. We really had to be independent. This isn't school. Remember that.

3: After that, you have to put the url (Universal Resource Locator) (look below)

(for example: http://www.bbc.co.uk/skillswise/words/grammar/sentencebasics/verbsubjectagreement/worksheet.shtml)

in your blog.

- Either you put the url in your blogs or you can just "printscreen" the exercise or worksheet and put it in your blog..either way is fine...

Hope my instructions are easy to understand.

anything just leave a comment here okay.

Salam...

ps: sorry 4 being a bit moody in this post..the sore throat n cold is really bugging me..

First Blog Assignment

Step-by-step instructions (With Miss Just's emo notes in brackets..):

The Question is:
In what way does the main character of the novel you're reading relate to you?

Read an English novel.
(Don't start complaining...reading helps you improve your English..why the heck would you still be in my class if you don't want to improve your English? Besides, I'm only asking you to read fiction, not something academic like a textbook.)

For those who wish to be more fluent in their English you should of course finish reading the whole novel or more than two or three chapters of the novel. After you've done much reading, study the main character of the novel. Either the character is a boy or a girl you have to then relate the characteristics of the person to yourself. (Come on, there has to be at least an incident that happened in your life that you find yourself to relate to the character. For example, in my case, reading "The Sound Machine" makes me relate to Klaus the fact that he invents something so unique and he manages to explore a different world through that creation. Through writing fiction I wish to create something different and not something cliche that most readers would find in Malay fiction. And in writing that, I managed to meet various kinds of people that further inspire me in my writing).

Write one or two paragraphs
(Don't forget to tell me the title of the novel and the author)
That's all you need to do for the first blog assignment..

You'll learn something from doing this assignment. I can promise you that.

Ps: Those who fail to submit this before the semester ends will.....(you know what will happen)

(^_^)v Salam
